Baltimore Orioles Information

If you want to talk about Major League Baseball teams that have a long history, look no further than the Baltimore Orioles.  While they haven't always been known as the Orioles, the team dates back to 1901 when the American League was created.  At that time, the club called Milwaukee home, though they only stayed there for one year after becoming part of Major League Baseball.  In later years, the Orioles were known as the St. Louis Browns.  In 1954, the team moved to their current location in Baltimore where they were renamed.

The name Orioles comes from the bird of the same name, which has a black back and an orange breast.  These colors can be seen in the uniforms worn by the team.  Depending on whether the team is playing at home or on the road, their uniforms vary.  The home uniform is white while the road uniform is grey.  Both have orange lettering with the team name across the chest.

After the Orioles moved to Baltimore in the 1950's, they called Memorial Stadium home.  For nearly 40 years all Orioles games were played at Memorial Stadium.  In 1992, the team moved to their recently built stadium where they still play today.  Known as Camden Yards, Orioles fans from all over flock to the stadium each year with their Baltimore Orioles tickets in hand waiting to see some of their favorites take the field.  Camden Yards is located in downtown Baltimore and is considered a "retro-styled" ballpark.

Throughout the history of the Baltimore Orioles, many great players have been part of the roster.  More than 40 members of the team have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame including Eddie Murray, Jim Palmer, Brooks Robinson, and Satchel Paige.  Also among the greats who have played for the Orioles is legendary shortstop and third baseman Cal Ripken, Jr.  Ripken spent his entire 20-year career with the team.  During his career with the Baltimore Orioles, Ripken played in 2632 consecutive games making him the all time leader.  Ripken's jersey is one of several retired by the team.

The Baltimore Orioles have played in the Major League Baseball World Series seven times including one appearance before the team moved to Baltimore.  These seven trips to the championship series have netted three titles in 1966, 1970, and 1983.

Over the course of the team's existence, they have had more winning than losing seasons and gain thousands of new fans each year.  With some of the most successful players and a large following, the Baltimore Orioles are considered one of the most popular teams in all Major League Baseball.  While the team's record has faltered a few times over the years, the lines for Baltimore Orioles tickets are always long, and many families attend several games over the course of a season.  For fans, visiting Camden Yards is a way to connect with their families, learn about the great players of the past, and take in an exciting game.

If you aren't an Orioles fan now, you are sure to be after visiting the team at their home field.  You will find many great tributes to players of the past, fun, and games for the entire family to enjoy, and a ballpark that reminds us of the early days of baseball.  Instead of enjoying the game from home, consider taking your family out to the ballpark this year.  It's an amazing adventure that will be remembered for years to come.  Purchase your Baltimore Orioles tickets today and get in on the action.
