Minnesota Twins Tickets

The Twins were one of the eight original American League charter franchises founded in 1901.  They weren't originally founded in Minnesota, but in Washington as the Washington Senators.  These days, people who buy Minnesota Twins tickets will be watching them play in the Minneapolis Metrodome, one of the older stadiums in Major League Baseball and home to the Twins since it opened in 1982.  The team is scheduled to move into a new ballpark, Target Field, in 2010.  The Metrodome still contains many happy memories for Minnesota Twins ticket holders though – the team has won two of their three World Series titles at the stadium!

While known as the Washington Senators, the team actually changed its name to the Washington Nationals only four years after being formed.  For the vast majority of the team's early life - up until the mid-fifties - the uniform was simply a large "W," with many fans still referring to the team as the "Senators" while others used the "Nats."  When the franchise expanded in 1960 to include the city of Minneapolis, owner Calvin Griffiths was allowed to move the Senators to the new city, while the expansion was granted to Washington.  Unfortunately for Washington baseball fans, the new team also ended up moving away to Arlington, Texas to become the Texas Rangers.

From 1961 through 1981, the team played at the Metropolitan Stadium, which has long since been demolished to be replaced by the Mall of America.  After an incredibly strong start when the team initially moved to the city, people buying Minnesota Twins tickets to watch them at the "Old Met" began to see their team start to crumble in the mid seventies.  Owner Calvin Griffith ran the team as his sole business and had no other source of income.  The team had to make a profit each and every season.  Most other owners had income from several business interests that could be used to float their teams during non-profit seasons.  The team's worst season ever while playing as the Twins came in 1982.  Griffith sold the team two years later to Carl Pohlad, a banker from Minneapolis.  Pohlad stayed with the team right up until 2009 when ownership passed to his three sons after his death at 93.

Shortly after that, things began to pick up for the team, and Minnesota Twins tickets once again became very popular.  Players who had been signed under Griffith like Frank Viola and Kent "Herbie" Hrbek, as well as young star players like Kirby Puckett, led the Twins to an amazing World Series win against the St. Louis Cardinals in 1987, much to the fans' delight.  The Twins did quite poorly away from the Metrodome in the 1987 series while doing incredibly well at home.

The design of the Metrodome gives the Minnesota Twins a large home advantage.  Anyone grabbing Minnesota Twins tickets has a very good chance of watching a winning game!  The Twins repeated this feat by doing something very similar in their next World Series win in 1991.  They were the first World Series champions to win the Series despite losing three away games simply by winning every game on their home turf.

On top of their three World Series wins, the Twins have also been had some excellent recent victories in the Central Division, winning the titles in 2002, 2003, 2004, and 2006.  Those not able to attend their games can watch them on Fox Sports North or radio station KSTP, but of course nothing can compare to buying Minnesota Twins tickets and seeing them play live at the Metrodome!
