Oakland Athletics Information

The Oakland Athletics is a Major League Baseball team with its home base in Oakland, California.  The franchise is a member of the Western Division of the American League.

The Oakland Athletics have a long history as a professional baseball team.  The team name is traced to the 19th century during the time when athletic clubs were common.  These athletes are affectionately known as the A's.  The team started in Philadelphia in 1901 before it moved to Kansas City in 1955.  The team stayed in Kansas until it had to move 13 years later to Oakland.  The team retained its name through all the transitions, making one of the few MLB teams that has kept its name from the start.  Some alternative names that have become popular are White Elephants, or the Elephants.

The Oakland Athletics that we know today began in 1901 as an expansion team for the American League.  The Athletics uniforms were designed as a tribute to the old amateur team.  The current home jersey and pants are all white with green and gold cursive letters that spell out "Athletics."  The road jersey and pants are all gray with green and gold cursive letters that spell out "Oakland."  The team logo is a green disk with the words "Oakland Athletics" and with the A's lettering in the center.  The cap insignia meanwhile is a cursive A with the apostrophe.  The Oakland Athletics are the only MLB team wearing white cleats for both home and road uniforms.

The Athletics went on to become one of the best teams in the stretch from 1901 to 1914, winning the American League pennant six times, as well as winning the World Series title in 1910, 1911, 1913.  Since then, they have won 6 more World Series titles, nine more American League pennants, and 14 West Division titles, making them one of the most successful franchises in the history of Major League Baseball.

The Athletics underwent a change in ownership in 2005, with the owners thinking about moving the team to San Jose.  Fortunately, a stadium issue with the San Francisco Giants allowed Oakland to keep the team.  During that time, they were predicted to be in the bottom of the standings, but they surprised everyone when they finished just seven games behind the Los Angeles Angels.  They brought the success from 2005 to the next year when they made it back to the playoffs after finishing the season with 93 wins.  They went past the Minnesota Twins as underdogs before being swept by the Detroit Tigers.  Unfortunately, injuries took a large toll on them in the last couple of years giving them their first losing season in nine years.

Oakland Athletics fans are hoping that their team bounces back for the year and in the few years after.  The baseball management group has kept the team sturdy despite the disappointments in recent years, and the team is promising that they will be pulling all strings to give the fans an exciting campaign.  This is your chance to get back on the bandwagon by buying Oakland Athletics tickets right now.  You can buy season tickets or packages for your friends and family, so you can plan a good weekend or two for a nice baseball game.

The faith of all fans for their beloved A's has never been more evident in these trying times.  Soon enough, the team will start to post solid seasons and make some noise in the playoffs.  Make sure that you are there when the A's win and become relevant in the MLB again.
