San Diego Padres Information
The San Diego Padres is a Major League Baseball franchise based in San Diego, California. It is one of several MLB teams in California and plays with the National League west division with the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Padres have been mildly competitive since their foundation in 1969. The Padres were an expansion team that came from the ranks of the Pacific Coast League, which is a minor baseball league. It joined the ranks of MLB teams as one of the four expansion teams in 1969 with the Montreal Expos, the Kansas City Royals, and the Milwaukee Brewers.
The San Diego Padres struggled to establish itself as a premier team on the West Coast, but the team continued to attract legions of fans in the area. They finished in last place in their first six seasons before finally rising to more wins as a franchise in the 70's. Despite all the struggles, you can find many diehard fans buying San Diego Padres tickets by the bundles. The team is regarded as an icon of the city for many San Diego locals.
The San Diego Padres continue to earn sellout crowds especially when MLB rivals come to their home stadium. Their division rivals include the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Colorado Rockies. The Padres also have a postseason rivalry with the St, Louis Cardinals. When these teams play at PETCO Park, fans buy San Diego Padres tickets and flock to the stands to support the team.
The Petco Park is an open air stadium in downtown San Diego. Petco Park is the exclusive home of the San Diego Padres. Before the move, the Padres shared the field with the NFL's San Diego Chargers.
Petco Park is different from other Major League ballparks with its retro-style design characterized by red brick structures and green seats. Most of the stadium is made of sandstone and stucco, which is held by exposed steel. The stadium has a seating capacity of 42,445 with most seats facing the beautiful skyline of the city. The design represents the sand and beach environs of San Diego.
Petco Park also has numerous TV monitors and displays in and around the ballpark. Fans in concession stands, restaurants, and bars can watch the action on one of the 244 high-definition TV monitors and 500 standard-definition TVs. Unlike other ballparks, Petco Park has its own broadcast system using the different exclusive angles to show the action on these monitors. The speakers are computer controlled to ensure that there is no audio delay and that the telecast is simultaneous through all the monitors. If you buy San Diego Padres tickets, you can either watch the game from your seat or enjoy the action with these HDTV monitors.
The current uniform colors of the Padres are dark blue, sand, and white, with blue caps. The home jersey has "Padres" patched in front, while the road jersey has the words "San Diego." The cap insignia is an interlocking S and D, while the team logo resembles a badge with blue waves to denote the beach with the San Diego Padres text on top of it.
The San Diego Padres won ninety-eight games in 1998, which is the most season wins in Padres history. They also became the National League Pennant titlist that year. There is a lot to expect from the Padres now and in the future. They have one of the finest pitchers in the league, and you can look forward to better defense and superior pitching against their opponents. The Padres are still searching for the elusive World Series Title, and they need the full support of their fans.
