St Louis Cardinals Information

Also referred to as "The Cards" and "The Redbirds," the St. Louis Cardinals represent the Major League Baseball team based out of St. Louis, Missouri.  The team is part of the Central Division in the National League.  Fans of the team have seen a number of the organization's successes since the St. Louis Cardinals were founded in 1882, including their many World Series championships.  The Cardinals are also the oldest professional sports franchise currently still in operation west of the Mississippi River, acting to their fans and historical buffs alike as an impressive testament to the sports industry.

When the team was originally founded, they were known as the St. Louis Brown Stockings and acted as a part of the American Association.  This name was borrowed from an earlier team, which was during its existence, a part of the National League.  In 1892, the team joined the National League.  It would be eight more years until the team's name evolved into the St. Louis Cardinals in the year 1900.

The Cardinals started playing in their current home stadium in the year 2006.  Cardinals' fans with St. Louis tickets this year would go on to witness the team becoming the first baseball team since the New York Yankees in 1923 to win the World Series Championship during the course of their first season housed in a new baseball park.  In addition to seasons of triumph and celebration, Cardinals tickets are especially popular when the team faces off against some of their strongest rivals, including the Chicago Cubs, whose rivalry began long ago in 1885.

St. Louis Cardinals tickets are plentiful in the new stadium, as Busch Stadium, or Busch III, cost $346 million to build and can comfortably seat 46,861 Cardinals fans and foes.  Holders of St. Louis Cardinals tickets will also invariably notice the designs and decorations of the new stadium, including the many statues of former St. Louis Cardinals players, which are situated just outside the ballpark.  One particularly notable statue is the one of Stan Musial.  This tribute is situated in front of Busch III's third base entrance.  Fans are often observed gathering into the stadium wearing colors supportive of the Redbirds:  red, navy blue, and white.

Busch Stadium is the fourth ballpark home for the Cardinals.  It is also the third such home to be named Busch Stadium, hence the nickname of Busch III.  Originally, St. Louis Cardinals tickets were issued for the team's very first ballpark home.  This stadium was Sportsman's Park and their home during the seasons of 1882 until 1893.  During 1893, the Cardinals moved to New Sportsman's Park, commonly referred to as Robinson Field, which the team called home from 1893-1920.  At this time, the team returned to their original ballpark, and in 1953 the St. Louis Cardinals were purchased by the Anheuser-Busch Brewery, which renamed Sportsman's Park to Busch Stadium, or Busch I.

During the 1966 baseball season, the Cardinals were transplanted once more, this time to Busch Memorial Stadium, or Busch II, until the year 2005.  Busch II was built in order to house two teams from different games, the St. Louis Cardinals (MLB) and the St. Louis Cardinals (NFL), now the Arizona Cardinals.  The present St. Louis Cardinals stadium is located immediately south of Busch II.  In fact, fans and individuals familiar with the structure and situation of the ballparks will note that Busch III is partially overlapping the old site of Busch Memorial Stadium, Busch II.

For fans interested in St. Louis Cardinals tickets for spring training games, the Cardinals tickets are issued for an alternate park.  Presently, the St. Louis Cardinals operate spring training from Roger Dean Stadium, which is located in Jupiter, Florida.  The Cardinals share this park, which opened in the year 1998, with another baseball team, the Florida Marlins.  Prior to their spring training being held in Roger Dean Stadium, the team practices at Al Lang Field.  This field is located in St. Petersburg, Florida, and was the spring training site of the Cardinals from 1937 through 1997.
